Part-time position averaging 24 hours per week.

Job Purpose:  To coordinate specific treatment interventions relating to issues of substance abuse and chemical dependency. This individual likewise insures accurate methods of intervention and treatment are utilized for clients with issues including substance abuse and chemical dependency.

Regulatory Requirements

  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor as described by the Iowa Board of Substance Abuse Certification.
  • Prior experience in the treatment of clients with Substance Abuse/Chemical Dependency issues and an understanding of psychological and social work interventions is preferred.
  • Eligible agency driver preferred.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position.
  • National Career Readiness Certificate preferred.

Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:

  1. To provide substance abuse assessments, individual and group therapy to clients with substance abuse and chemical dependency issues.
  2. Complete thorough assessment of needs on all Dual-Diagnosis clients and those RT clients identified by program staff (competency: effective writing skills and assessment skills).
  3. Provide all substance abuse/chemical dependency group therapy (competency: group therapy, confidentiality, appropriate relationships with clients).
  4. Monitor client progress related to substance abuse treatment goals, including individual sessions with clients (competency: treatment plans, individual therapy, assessment).
  5. To provide substance abuse/chemical dependency education to clients and their families.
  6. Develop, monitor, and update (annually) substance abuse educational curriculum used in RT (Competency: training, effective verbal and writing skills).
  7. Provide education to Dual Diagnosis parents' during monthly Family Day (Competency: training, effective verbal and writing skills, confidentiality, family work).
  8. To serve as a member of the Dual-Diagnosis Treatment Team.
  9. Attend all scheduled team or program-related meetings.
  10. Provide expertise in the area of substance abuse and chemical dependency to the treatment team members (Competency: effective verbal skills, appropriate relationships with clients).
  11. Develop substance abuse/chemical dependency treatment goals for all Dual-Diagnosis clients within 14 days of admission (Competency: treatment plans, assessment, effective writing skills).
  12. Write monthly progress reports related to substance abuse treatment goals(on all clients) (Competency: effective writing skills, assessment, treatment plans).
  13. Provide assistance in discharge planning and Aftercare recommendations.
  14. To maintain thorough treatment records on all clients, including documentation of all group or individual sessions within a clients clinical record (Competency: effective writing skills, confidentiality).
  15. To serve the needs of clients with substance abuse/chemical dependency issues agency-wide.
  16. Maintain timely documentation of services provided to all clients (Competency: effective writing skills, confidentiality).
  17. Provide agency-wide in-service training to staff as needed concerning the issues of clients affected by substance abuse and chemical dependency issues (Competency: training, effective verbal skills, assessment, appropriate relationships with clients).
  18. To provide discharge summary and recommendations on all clients served within 14 days of discharge (Competency: effective writing skills, assessment).
  19. Facilitate and monitor agency-wide Substance Abuse Group and AA meeting (Competency: assessment, effective verbal skills, confidentiality).
  20. To serve as a liaison between Hillcrest and community substance abuse service providers (Competency: confidentiality, effective verbal skills).
  21. Establishes rapport, systematically gather data, and determine the client's readiness for treatment and change.
  22. Accepts criteria for diagnosis of substance abuse disorders.
  23. Screens for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms, aggression or danger to others, potential for self-inflicted harm or suicide, and coexisting behavioral health problems.
  24. Analyze and interpret all relevant data to determine treatment recommendations and priorities.
  25. Formulate with the client mutually agreed upon, measurable treatment goals and objectives.
  26. Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to accepted ethical and behavioral standards of conduct and continuing professional development.
  27. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
