Job Purpose:  Perform dietary functions for Hillcrest Family Services to assist Hillcrest staff including carrying out special functions i.e., banquets, parties, etc.

Regulatory Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge and experience in institutional cooking preferred.  Completion of ServSafe within six months of hire.
  • Child/Dependent Adult Abuse training must be completed within 6 months of hire (for all staff) and every 5 years thereafter (for client care staff).
  • Must successfully complete child/dependent adult abuse and criminal background check,  including DHS evaluation (if needed, including documentation of follow-through for any stated employment restrictions); reference check forms (minimum of two); and employment physical, TB test and drug screen prior to contact with clients and as required thereafter. 
  • Full time staff are required to be trained on the following items with 30 days of hire (90 days for part time).  Member rights; rights, restrictions and limitations; member confidentiality; provision of member medication (policy training within 30 days; and "hands on" training per policy); individual support needs; behavior intervention plans, and incident reporting.  Staff serving clients with brain injury must also receive training on that topic prior to service provision to members.

Job Duties

1. To provide nutritious and appetizing meals in accordance with state requirements.
2. To prepare daily meals for residents and/or students of Hillcrest.
3. To ensure adequate portions are available for clients and staff.
4. Complete daily food production forms.
5. Attend regular cooks' meetings to ensure menu is followed.
6. To follow proper sanitation procedures, safety precautions and proper preparing, serving and storing food.
7. Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area and food storage facilities.
8. Check in deliveries and assist putting stock away.
9. Inform supervisor of concerns regarding upkeep of kitchen and food storage areas.
10. Fill weekly grocery orders for all programs.
11. To attend all staff orientation and in-service training.
12. To attend all training.
13. To complete all necessary documentation relating to attendance, certification and evaluation.
14. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
